Jens Matson, PT, DPT, OCS, CMPT / Owner
After earning his Doctorate in Physical Therapy, Jens entered a two-year post-doctoral residency for further specialization in orthopedics and manual therapy. He is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy (OCS) and certified manual physical therapy (CMPT). He specializes in care and prevention of orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries, orthopedic manual therapy, sports rehabilitation, and has a special interest in the care of patients with post-concussion syndrome. Jens’ passion for Physical Therapy resides in being able to establish a personal connection with each patient he treats. He utilizes a patient-centered approach and strives to establish individualized treatment plans for each person with consideration and focus on the unique needs and goals of each individual.

Maria Matson, PT, DPT / Owner
Maria is passionate about providing individualized, evidence-based care to help her patients reach their goals and live a healthy, active lifestyle. She has taken extensive training through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT), and is passionate about combining manual therapy interventions with functional movement and exercise to help optimize results. She enjoys treating patients of all ages with orthopedic and sports injuries, neurological conditions, chronic pain, and balance disorders. She has also received additional training in pelvic health, with a special interest in treatment of women during their pregnancy and postpartum journey as well as pelvic-related conditions occurring throughout a woman’s lifespan.
In addition to physical therapy, Maria is a Certified Alignment Based Yoga Practitioner and strives to make yoga accessible and safe to everyone, whether you are new to yoga or returning back after injury.

Katie Schuelke, PT, DPT
Katie received her undergraduate B.S in Exercise Science from Black Hills State University. While attending BHSU she also competed on the rodeo team and worked as a certified nurse assistant. She went on to attend the University of South Dakota to obtain her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. During her education at USD, Katie completed clinical education in a variety of settings and specialties including: outpatient orthopedics, inpatient/outpatient neurological rehabilitation, women’s health, long term care, and acute care.
Katie is passionate about adapting her physical therapy practice to best compliment each individual’s goals, then developing a comprehensive treatment approach.

Kelli Karr, PT, DPT
Kelli has always been passionate about helping people get back to the activities that make them feel whole. She always knew she wanted to be in healthcare and has really found her calling with Physical Therapy. Kelli has worked with patients in an outpatient setting, in both hospital systems as well as private practice clinics. She enjoys working with patients with a variety of conditions such as low back pain, patients recovering from surgeries, and other chronic pain issues.

Cathy Hackney, Billing Specialist/Administrative Support Manager
Cathy has been with Black Hills Physical Therapy since 2001. She has extensive knowledge in insurance billing, medical coding, HIPAA training, and Medicare rules and regulations. She uses her wealth of knowledge and skill with helping all customers with their scheduling and billing needs, as well as keeping Black Hills Physical Therapy staff and office current and well-informed on the many changes in health care. Outside of the clinic, Cathy enjoys antiquing, sewing, and exploring small, off the main road towns but most of all spending time with her friends and family especially her grandchildren.
Colleen Crofutt, Front Office Administrator
Colleen is a native of the Spearfish community. She is the friendly voice you hear when you call or the friendly smile that greets you when you walk in our door.
Colleen does her best to accommodate your scheduling needs and assist with your insurance issues.
Outside of work, Colleen enjoys hunting, hiking and exploring the back roads of the Black Hills area, along with spending time with family and friends.
Ann Marchant, Front Office Assistant
Ann has called Spearfish home for 20 years. She brings a vast background of medical and health knowledge to our team. She is passionate about people and wants them to live out their “very best life”! She is knowledgeable in the areas of nutrition and exercise and believes in growing old with strength and grace. Ann’s enthusiasm and commitment to our patients are always at the forefront of her mind.
With its natural beauty and abundant outdoor amenities, Spearfish is a perfect fit for Ann. She loves hiking, running, lifting weights, growing pretty flowers..and most of all -spending time with her dear grandchildren and friends. She considers it a true joy to be part of the excellence that Black Hills Physical Therapy brings to their patients.
Cathy Sulentic-Morcom, PT, DPT / Founder
Cathy has worked in the Northern Black Hills since 1986 and has called the Black Hills her home for most of her life. In 1995, Cathy established Black Hills Physical Therapy, Inc, an independently owned private physical therapy outpatient clinic committed to providing the highest quality, evidence- based Physical Therapy services to the Northern Black Hills. She has been a committed member of the American Physical Therapy Association since 1981 and actively involved in the South Dakota Physical Therapy Association, holding several offices and committee positions.
